As acceptance of immigrants is one of the most multifaceted problems, each country policy depends on its geographical elements mainly.
Since Japan is surrounded by the sea, we tend to be homogeneous, and sometimes defend our nation against new-comers. Compared to Europe and the United States, sharing boundaries with other countries, it is rare to face the situation where rejecting refugees to come is almost inevitable. In fact, the acceptance rate of refugees in Japan is no more than 0.02 %, this means the other 99% people have been forced to leave here.
I will not talk about how our government law is strict, and how refugees struggle with this situation. But one thing I want to tell you is that this refugee problems will never be advanced without cooperation of developed countries. Despite each country’s circumstances are unique, Japan should keep up with countries that have already accepted a number of refugees.
For all countries, commencing something and taking a lead of it requires huge effort especially on international problems. But keeping step in tackling the same problem between developed countries including Japan will be effective in achieving the goal. Let’s start with joining the international standard policy. (N.S.)
